The source of the longest Czech river is located at the foot of Černá hora in the picturesque Šumava nature.
Pramen Vltavy, also known as Černé jezero, lies in Šumava at an altitude of 1172 meters. Since 1990, it has been protected as a national natural monument. A nature trail about 1 km long leads to the site, starting near former Kvilda.
The surroundings are rich in peat bogs and mountain meadows. Near the spring stands a memorial plaque commemorating the creation of independent Czechoslovakia. Tourists can see the artificially modified riverbed where the Vltava rises, and the picturesque surroundings with typical Šumava flora and fauna.
The nearest starting point is the village of Kvilda, from where a cycling path also leads. We recommend sturdy footwear and, due to the mountain environment, warmer clothing even in summer. Entry is free all year round.
