Hotel • Beroun
Romantic castle above the Berounka River with tours of historical interiors, a tower, and a brewery. Founded in the 13th century as a hunting castle.
Originally a Gothic castle, it was founded in 1265 by King Přemysl Otakar II as a hunting residence. Over the centuries, it underwent Renaissance and Baroque renovations, finally acquiring a romantic Gothic appearance under the Fürstenbergs in the 19th century. After 1989, the castle was returned in restitution to the descendants of the original owners and today is a popular tourist destination.
Visitors can admire historical interiors with period furniture, a knight's hall, and a chapel. The dominant feature is the observation tower with a beautiful view of the Berounka valley and the Křivoklát forests. The complex includes an English park and the famous Nižbor Castle Brewery, where beer is brewed according to traditional recipes.
The castle is open during the tourist season and offers guided tours. There is a restaurant with a brewery and a pleasant garden terrace. Nižbor lies just a few kilometers from Křivoklát Castle and is an ideal excursion spot for history lovers and hikers along the Berounka River.
